Minutes from La Crosse Meeting

The next regular meeting of Brotherhood Of Railroad Signalmen Local 20 will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Country Inn & Suites Naperville, located at 1837 Centre Point Circle, Naperville, IL.

Here are brief minutes from our last meeting held September 8, 2012 in LaCrosse. The meeting opened at 8:30 a.m. with 9 members, 4 retirees, and 1 guest present. A treasury balance of $ 82,424.32 in checking and C.D.’s in the amount of $ 21,433.71 was reported. Six new members were voted in, as well as reading of previous meeting minutes.

Joe Lokken reported on the following: A back incident resulting in a Level “S” that is going to appeal. He also reported on the crane incident in Westmont resulting in 4 members having charges dropped, and a 30 day Level “S” for the foreman and operator. Joe also discussed an hours of service issue resulting in a 10 day record suspension as well as the upcoming national elections.

Jerry Moore reported on the following: The companies refusal to pay the principal witnesses in investigations. He also discussed the ongoing audits by payroll concerning our overtime and calls. Lodging complaints for our crews was discussed as well, as well as a directive from management to have on track equipment stop and protect each road crossing. Jerry also discussed a supposed track light that was actually a dispatcher work station/software issue.

Craig McLaren discussed the following: An incident with a hyrail truck hitting a car at a crossing, as well as a medical form that management gives out when a personal injury is reported. He also discussed taking vacation days on either side of holidays.

Jerry Moore reported on behalf of Nate Estes: Call out issues with the signal desk pending a ticket after an i-bond was installed after normal working hours, and a monthly rated maintainer on the former ATSF being denied crossover pay.

The amendment to article V, section 3 was passed unanimously.

Guest Dan Petro discussed the need to document problems with the above mentioned computer/software issues, and keeping copies of those documents. He also advised to make formal complaints on the lodging issues and keeping copies of those as well. Dan also gave some helpful advice on filling out the medical (HIPPA) form that Craig discussed, as well as an excellent explanation of FELA and the correct way of dealing with company in the case of injury.

In closing it looks like we may be getting close to a dues reduction, possibly at the end of 4th quarter.
