BROTHERHOOD  OF RAILROAD SIGNALMEN LOCAL 20

The next regular meeting of BRS Local 20 will be Saturday June 21, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at The Best Western Prairie Inn, 300 S. Soangetaha Rd. Galesburg, Il.  Reservations may be made by calling 309-343-7151.  Following are brief minutes from our last meeting held April 12, 2014 in Ft. Madison, IA.

The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. with 9 members present.  It was reported there was $90,966.46 in checking and c.d.’s in the amount of $21,631.06.  Previous meeting’s minutes were read and approved.

Craig McLaren spoke about the following: a member investigated over failure to fill out a position of switch form, and the importance of properly filling out personal injury reports, and any other documents.

Joe Baker discussed the following: the grey area over protection  on “other than main track”, FRA audit questions, and proper and timely reporting on our tests.

Jerry Moore discussed: a member receiving a level “s” 3 year probation for getting authority on the wrong track, a member being injured in March, and the need to be cautious when giving medical reports to the company.  He also mentioned the fact that RCL guys had high security keys and company computers.  Jerry also spoke about the need to accurately report our hours of service, they are monitoring this along with our time roll.  It was also discussed that new hires are now attending class for 30 days in Kansas City covering CDL’s and basic signaling.  Jerry closed with a talk about the need to remain vigilant on reporting and documenting the poor lodging conditions at some of the dumps where the company expects our members to stay.

Before we closed we unanimously approved the by-laws change eliminating the larger initiation fee for new hires hired at the signalman level or above.

I hope to see a nice turn out in Galesburg June 21, and hope everyone has a great summer.

Fraternally,

Ed Leeson, Recording Financial Secretary BRS Local 20
