Minutes from Naperville on November 5th 2011

The next regular meeting of BRS Local 20 will be held Saturday February 25, 2012 at the Chillicothe Comfort Inn & Suites, located at 250 Business Hwy. 36, Chillicothe, MO. Reservations may be made at 660-646-9900. Following are brief minutes from our last meeting held in Naperville, IL. November 5, 2011.

The meeting opened at 8:30 a.m. with 17 members present. Bills and previous minutes were read and unanimously approved, and a treasury balance of $ 27,705.73 in checking and $ 21,245.62 in C.D.’s was reported.

Don Levell reported on a waiver for a member involved in a backing incident. Don also touched on a letter from President Pickett concerning non-designated legal counsel attending meetings. There were 5 claims sent to Grand Lodge for further handling as well. He also reported on 5 new letters of agreement.

John Bitters reported on a rule G incident, which resulted in a dismissal. He also discussed an out of authority limit violation resulting in a level S, 3 year probation. John also reported on an upcoming investigation for some men accused of not having proper protection while working on a yard switch.

Joe Lokken reported on a backing incident that resulted in a level S being dismissed, with a 1 year review period. He also talked about the federal whistleblower law, as well as an injury in Wisconsin, resulting in a waiver being signed. He closed with a discussion about the importance of members not signing any papers without proper union representation, and reported on a successful General Committee audit. The meeting closed at 11:15 a.m.

By now hopefully everyone has had a chance to vote on the new contract proposal. Ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 2, 2012. Please vote.

With 2012 now here we will be holding our tri-annual election of officers. We will take nominations up to and including our meeting in Ft. Madison on April 21, 2012. Ballots will be sent out after that meeting, and will be counted at our Galesburg meeting, June 9, 2012. The following offices are open for nomination: President, Recording Financial Secretary, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and trustees, of which we elect 3. We also nominate Local Chairmen for the following districts: Ft. Madison, Savanna, Aurora, Hannibal, and Ottumwa. We also need nominations for grievance committee members from those districts. There are 2 per district elected. If possible, assure your nominees are willing to run and actively participate if elected. You can e-mail me or phone, or verbally nominate someone.
